Make Thrift Mend
Do you know about Katrina Rodabaugh? She's an artist, writer and crafter who lives and creates in Oakland, CA. She just finished a year long project where she abstained from buying any Fast Fashion as a conscientious action. I have a new heroine. She invokes Natalie Chanin and her emphasis on Slow Fashion. She embraces mending, and mendfulness (isn't that a great term?) which you can read all about in her article in the current issue of Taproot. She practices Boro and Sashiko to preserve garments in a beautiful manner. Take ten minutes and go through her website, Make Thrift Mend, I promise it will be worth it. I am smitten. I am going to see if there is a way I can bring her here to Maine....
Herewith a sample of some Boro style mending of a pair of my husband's jeans that I did recently. I'll be leading a Boro inspired workshop twice this fall. Details can be found HERE.
