Big weekend coming up...

I've been a little quiet in this space lately, but that's just because I've been loud in other places.  The Facebook page gets updated more often, and now in addition to Twitter and Pinterest, you can also find us on Instagram, our handle is agatheringofstitches.  Keeping up with all this media can be a bit overwhelming and does get in the way of the actual stitching that this is all about.  So I am striving to prioritize and step away from the computer occasionally. It is one of the those ironic facts that I began this business to spend more time with my hand crafts, but, at the moment, actually spend less time on them. I love coming in to the studio and hearing all the making going on around me, but sometimes I feel a bit wistful that I cannot participate all the time. Something to work on... 

I am making, however, even if it takes a more abbreviated form.  I recently became obsessed with making T shirts, having found a great simple pattern online (Hemlock from Grainline) turned out four of them in about two weeks. I think I have worked through this pattern for the moment, but am now moving on to Renfrew from Sewaholic.  Would any of you be interested in a basic T shirt workshop? Let me know?

This weekend should be pretty exciting at 54 Cove Street.  Amy Herzog, blogger, Fit to Flatter creator and author of Knit to Flatter, will be here for a four-hour workshop on executing well-fitting garments.   She will be taking a lucky group through all the ins and outs of choosing, altering and knitting a pattern that will result in a flattering sweater. There are few things more frustrating than spending a lot of time working carefully (or not...) on a sweater only to find that it doesn't fit nicely. Amy's approach is all about maximizing your knitting experience and your results.  Should be a fabulous workshop for all sweater knitters out there.  I am very excited she will be sharing her expertise with us. 

When the workshop is over, Amy will be available to sign copies of her book, Knit to Flatter, which we will have for sale. So if you can't make it to the workshop, but still want a little piece of the experience, come out for her signing and say Hi to this lovely woman!  

This Saturday is the first annual East Bayside Block Party! From Noon to 4:00, Anderson Street, which is right out our front door, will be bursting with activities, music, food, crafts and fun. You should come down and hang out. We've got great neighbors like Tandem Coffee, Running With Scissors, Port Fiber, Bunker Brewing, Rising Tide Brewery, Compass Project, Pistol Pete's Upholstery, The Urban Farm Fermentory and more. They'll all be strutting their stuff, so it will be a great opportunity to see what's going on down here in East Bayside.... I hope we see you!
